In Ičići, the first snorkeling location in this small coastal town was ceremoniously presented – a project that brings a completely new experience of the sea and nature and highlights the importance of protecting the marine ecosystem.

The presentation was accompanied by a special exhibition of underwater photographs by professional photographer Mr. Anton Unković, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of the magical world beneath the sea surface as early as today.
This project, conceived by the Ičići Tourist Board, brings freshness to the town’s tourism offer. It provides visitors with something new and different – an opportunity to discover the fascinating diversity of the underwater world, while also serving as a reminder of how important it is to preserve the unique marine environment that surrounds us.
The seabed at the selected location reveals a true mosaic of life: colorful algae, schools of salema and saddled seabream, elegant fan mussels, curious rainbow wrasse, and even a small colony of yellow corals at just a few meters’ depth – a sight of exceptional value for our part of the Adriatic. In the shallows, green and purple hues of algae intertwine, while the sandy bottom and rocky boulders provide shelter for numerous species.

The snorkeling location is situated along the promenade next to the centuries-old Villa Florida. This very spot was chosen as the first in a series of future locations that will gradually form a small "underwater park” of Ičići.A special contribution to the project was made by Ms. Barbara Unković from Underwater Affair, MSc, author of thematic seabed maps, illustrator, and interpreter of natural heritage. Her meticulously mapped seabed chart, accompanied by descriptions and interpretations, further enhances the value of Ičići’s hidden marine world and provides visitors with clear and educational guidance for exploration. The photographs accompanying the project were created thanks to Mr. Unković’s underwater lens, thanks to which the offices of the Ičići Tourist Board were transformed into an exhibition space for one day.

From the 2026 season, the map will be available at the Ičići Tourist Board office and will also be downloadable in digital form via the official Ičići Tourist Board website.
The snorkeling location by Villa Florida is just the beginning. Through this project, the Ičići Tourist Board aims to raise awareness of the beauty and importance of the sea that surrounds us and to provide Ičići with new educational and recreational content that will attract both domestic and international visitors. This initiative builds on efforts to expand the town’s tourism offer beyond traditional forms of vacation – offering experiences that connect nature, recreation, and sustainability.
And very soon, all sea lovers will be able to dive into this world of colors, movement, and silence with a mask and snorkel – and discover just how vibrant, delicate, and precious the underwater world of Ičići truly is.
